MADHON NEWS JANUARY,09 2015, SAUDI ARABIA - A Saudi blogger sentenced to flogging in public after accused of committing cybercrimes and insulting Islam, according to reports coming in.
Raif Badawi, who was sentenced to caning 1,000 times and 10 years in prison, in the first phase of whipped 50 times in front of a mosque in Jeddah after Friday prayers, witnesses said.
Whip punishment will be carried out every week, according to campaigners who oppose this sentence.
Badawi, one of the founders of the Liberal Saudi Network websites are now banned, was arrested in 2012.
Rights groups have condemned the charges and the United States has called for granting forgiveness.
On Thursday (01/08/2015) a spokesman for the US State Department Jen Psaki urged the authorities in Saudi Arabia to "cancel this brutal punishment" and review the case again.
