Headline - The Government welcomes the trend of the strengthening of the rupiah against the US dollar (US) in spot market trading session this weekend. The rupiah strengthening occurred in the past few days since the Indonesian Bank intervention in the currency market.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Djalil, Friday, December 19, 2014, stating the strengthening rupiah showed that Indonesia's economic fundamentals awake in the middle of the current world economic turmoil.

Economic turmoil which is meant to market concerns to the US Federal Reserve's policy-related scheduled to accelerate the increase in the benchmark interest rate as signs of economic recovery in the superpower it's getting stronger.

"Yesterday there was an overreaction right, when our economy fine," said Sofyan in Jakarta.

He said the co-ordination between the government and Bank Indonesia in an effort to stabilize the exchange rate will continue to be made. So that the upward trend may continue.

As is known, the US central bank yesterday announced it would not raise interest rates in the near term. The assertion was welcomed as a positive signal to the international financial markets.

Based on data from Jakarta Interbank Spot Dollar Rate (Jisdor) released BI, Friday, December 19, 2014, the rupiah capped at Rp12.500 per US dollar, up from the previous day at the level of the position of Rp12.565 per US dollar. This strength is the highest during the past week. (ren)
